Oil marketing companies, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), have made it clear that they will bear the burden of this additional tax for the time being. This means that fuel prices at petrol pumps will remain stable for the time being. This decision has been taken at a time when crude oil prices are fluctuating in the global market and the demand for fuel in India is continuously increasing.

PUC Certificate Mandatory

At present, there are government-authorized testing cabins at some petrol pumps in Delhi, which issue Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates. Vehicle owners are required to get their vehicles tested every year and renew their PUC certificates. Now, to make this system more stringent, a special device is being installed at all petrol pumps in Delhi. This device will identify vehicles whose PUC certificate has expired. Such vehicles will be refused fuel.

There are about 500 petrol pumps in Delhi where this system is being implemented. When a vehicle that does not comply with the emission standards arrives to fill fuel, the system will declare it a “defaulter” and the petrol pump staff will refuse to give fuel to that vehicle.

How will it be identified?

This new system is connected to a central database, which will check the status of the vehicle based on the vehicle’s registration number. If the vehicle’s PUC certificate has expired, the petrol pump workers will be informed about it.

• Angra HP Centre , Vinay Marg, Opposite Nehru Park, Chanakyapuri

• Intimate Service Station , Panchsheel Park

Special focus on 15 year old vehicles

The Delhi government had recently announced that vehicles older than 15 years will not be given fuel. Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said that a special team will be formed to identify such vehicles. He said, “We are installing such equipment at petrol pumps, which will identify vehicles older than 15 years and they will be denied fuel.” It is worth noting that a policy is already in force in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), under which diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years cannot run on the roads.

Countries with the highest subsidies

The 10 largest countries subsidizing fossil fuels in 2023 include Russia, Germany, Iran, China, Japan, India, Saudi Arabia, the Netherlands, France and Indonesia. According to the data, 23 developed countries have spent $378 billion on fossil fuel subsidies. They are authorized under the United Nations Climate Convention to provide climate finance to developing countries.

Billions of dollars to be paid by 2035

At the UN climate summit held in Baku, Azerbaijan last month, these countries committed to giving developing countries $300 billion a year by 2035 to help fight climate change. However, this is far short of the $1,300 billion needed annually by the Global South to address the problem of a rapidly warming planet. India, Bolivia, Nigeria and Malawi, speaking on behalf of a group of 45 least developed countries (LDCs), strongly criticized the new climate finance package for developing countries.

90 percent of carbon comes from fossil fuels

India argued that $300 billion is not enough to implement national climate plans, known as nationally determined contributions. It said that adjusted for inflation, the amount is less than the previous $100 billion target agreed in 2009. Fossil fuels coal, oil and gas are the biggest contributors to climate change, responsible for more than 75 percent of global greenhouse gases and about 90 percent of all carbon dioxide emissions.

Giving this information on Saturday, Tripura’s Food and Supplies Minister Sushanta Choudhary said that this decision has been taken due to the disruption in fuel supply in the state due to the derailment of a goods train between Lumding and Badarpur section of Northeast Frontier Railway. He said that the government will start ‘rationing’ of petrol from November 10 under the system of distribution of things in equal proportion.

Minister Sushil Chaudhary posted on the social media platform ‘Facebook’ and said, ‘Due to the derailment of a goods train between Lumding and Badarpur, the state’s fuel stock has decreased drastically. Therefore, the state government will ban the sale of fuel, especially petrol, from Sunday.’

Let us tell you that on October 31, a tanker of a goods train carrying fuel derailed between Lumding and Badarpur section. Due to this, about 5 km of tracks have been uprooted, due to which normal fuel supply in Tripura has been affected.

The Food and Supplies Minister of Tripura said that he has spoken to the General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), who has assured that the railway track will be fully restored by November 13. In this regard, NFR Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) KK Sharma said that due to the derailment of the goods train, the operation of goods trains between Lumding and Badarpur has been partially affected, but passenger service is continuing normally.

In Ghaziabad too, today petrol became cheaper by 18 paise and reached Rs 96.26 a liter while diesel became cheaper by 17 paise to Rs 89.45 a litre. Petrol price in Gurugram today increased by 6 paise to Rs 97.10 a litre, while diesel has gone up by 5 paise to Rs 89.96 a litre.

Talking about crude oil, its prices are showing a rise in the last 24 hours. The price of Brent crude has increased by about $ 1 to $ 72.70 per barrel. The rate of WTI is also running with an increase today at $ 68.77 per barrel.

The minister said that a notification in this regard will also be issued soon.
