Under this, extra fare will be charged for weight above the prescribed limit. Electronic luggage machines like airports will be installed at stations and the weight and size of the bag will be checked. It was also said that a fine will be charged for luggage above the prescribed limit and without booking.

12 thousand special trains will run

Indian Railways has decided to run more than 12000 special trains for the convenience of passengers on Diwali and Chhath festival, which will facilitate the passengers to go to their villages. Railways will soon release the schedule of these special trains, so that passengers can make reservations in time. This time the Railways will take the help of AI to provide better facilities to the passengers.

Special trains from Delhi will go towards the east i.e. Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Assam. These include the 53 km long Bhagalpur-Jamalpur third line, costing ₹1,156 crore; the project to double the 104 km long Bakhtiyarpur-Rajgir-Tilaiya line, costing ₹2,017 crore and the project to double the 177 km long Rampur Hat-Bhagalpur line, costing ₹3,000 crore.

Ashwini Vaishnav said that two Software Technology Parks of India (STPIs) will be inaugurated in Bihar soon. These include STPI built at a cost of ₹ 53 crore in Patliputra and STPI built at a cost of ₹ 10 crore in Darbhanga. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Railways is dedicated to the development of the country.

Reserved lower berths in trains

There is a fixed number of lower seats in every coach of railway train. There are 6 to 7 lower seats in sleeper coach. There are 4 to 5 lower berths in every coach of third AC. Whereas there are 3 to 4 lower seats in every coach of 2 AC. In such a situation, Indian Railways always gives priority to Divyang passengers so that they do not face any problem in going to the seat. 2 lower berths are reserved for them in sleeper coach. 4 lower berths in third AC and third economy, 4 seats in second seating or chair car are reserved for these people.

At the same time, if the lower berth remains vacant during the journey, then on priority basis it is given to senior citizens, disabled and pregnant women, who are on the middle or upper berths.

RPF presents these passengers in front of the registrar. In such a case, a fine of Rs 1000 is imposed on them. If the fine is not paid, there can also be a jail term of 6 months.

Ashwini Vaishnav told the Lok Sabha that the railways focus more on safety. He said that many technical changes have been made for this, which include longer rails, electronic interlocking, fog safety devices and many other big steps. He said that India has become a big exporter of railways.

13523 rounds are taken for Holi and summer holidays, 7983 rounds are taken for Diwali and Chhath

The Railway Minister said, ‘Accordingly, special trains made 13,523 trips to transport the additional rush of passengers to their destinations during Holi and summer holidays in the year 2024. In view of the additional demand during Durga Puja / Diwali / Chhath, 7983 trips of special trains were notified during the period from October 1, 2024 to November 30, 2024 to transport about 1.8 crore passengers to their destinations.’

According to the Railway Minister, during 2023-24, 872 coaches were used for increasing train services on a permanent basis, while during 2024-25 (till October, 2024), 664 coaches have been used for capacity enhancement on a permanent basis.

Work is being done rapidly to increase production

After BEML, the national transporter is working to start manufacturing 1920 coaches for Vande Bharat sleeper trains at its Latur-based Rail Coach Factory.

According to ETNow, the national transporter has awarded the contract to manufacture the new edition of the Vande Bharat Express train to three companies – BEML, Kinet Railway Solution (a joint venture between Russian rolling stock major TMH and Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd), and a consortium of Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd and Bharat Heavy Engineering Ltd (BHEL). Of these, Kinet Railway Solution will produce coaches for Indian Railways’ Vande Bharat sleeper trains under a contract worth US$6.5 billion.

The first Vande Bharat sleeper train will run on this route

According to the news, the first Vande Bharat Sleeper train will run on the New Delhi to Srinagar route. The commercial operation of this train will start in January 2025. This semi-high-speed train will run on the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link, which will provide passengers a better travel experience with modern facilities. The Vande Bharat Sleeper train will cover the distance of more than 800 km between New Delhi and Srinagar in less than 13 hours. The new Vande Bharat Express is light and can accelerate to 100 km in just 52 seconds. At present, all Vande Bharat trains are fully air-conditioned and have automatic doors. The chair of Vande Bharat train can be rotated up to 180 degrees. The train has GPS based information system, CCTV cameras, vacuum toilets.

It also has a provision for power backup. This train is equipped with safety shield. Full care has been taken to ensure that passengers feel safe during the journey. It also has the facility of push button stop. In case of any emergency the train can be stopped by pressing a button.

The Railway Minister said that by November 21, 2023, pillars have been built in 251.40 kilometers and elevated super structures have been built in 103.24 kilometers. Along with the update, the Railway Minister has also shared a video showing that the Bullet Train Project work is going on in Valsad (Gujarat), Navsari (Gujarat), Surat (Gujarat) and Vadodara (Gujarat) and Anand (Gujarat).

How much will the salary of the employees increase? About 40,000 supervisor grade employees will benefit from the increase in the salary of railway employees. Supervisor category includes station master, ticket checker, traffic inspector etc. All these are called field level employees. After this increase, the employees will get an average salary of Rs 2,500 to 4,000 more per month. Apart from this, the burden of 10 thousand crore rupees will increase in the salary bill of Railways.

These railway employees will be promoted

While announcing the salary hike of railway employees, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that such a demand was being made among the supervisor cadre employees for the last 16 years. The only option for promotion among these employees was to conduct Group B exam and selection for 3,712 posts. Now after this announcement, 50 percent of the employees will be promoted from level 7 to level 8.

They will also get the benefit of increment. The new provision in the salary of railway employees will also benefit the supervisors of civil, mechanical, electrical, S&T traffic chemical and S&T, metallurgical, store and commercial departments. AIRF General Secretary Shiv Gopal Mishra told that this has been possible after vigorous efforts of All India Railway men’s Federation (AIRF) along with Ministry of Railways as well as DOPT and MOF (DOI). The association had demanded an increase in the salary of the employees from Rs 4,600 to Rs 5,400.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav says that this step of increasing the salary of railway employees will not have any financial impact on the government’s exchequer as it will be mainly compensated by the railways by saving its diesel bill.

Reservation for women 45 years of age and above

Six to seven lower berths in each sleeper coach, four to five lower berths in air-conditioned 3 tier (3 AC) coach and four to five lower berths in air conditioned 2 tier (2 AC) coach Three to four lower berths have been reserved for senior citizens, women passengers of 45 years and above and pregnant women. Let us tell you that the reservation will be done on the basis of the number of coaches of that class in the train.

The Railway Minister said, ‘Special arrangements have been made for the safety of women passengers in trains. ‘Police’ and ‘Public Order’ are state subjects under the Seventh Schedule of the Constitution of India, however, Railway Protection Force (RPF) GRP and District Police will provide better security to passengers.’

Along with this, steps are being taken by the Railways with the help of GRP for the safety of women passengers as well as other passengers on trains and stations. The Railway Protection Force had launched a pan-India initiative ‘Meri Saheli’ last year, with the aim of providing security to women passengers traveling by trains throughout their journey.
