(Increment amount ÷ old salary) × 100

= 10,000 ÷ 50,000 × 100 = 20% increment

3. When stated in percentage

If the company says you have received a 20% increment and your old salary is ₹50,000, then the formula will be:

(Percentage × old salary) ÷ 100 + old salary

= (20 × 50,000) ÷ 100 + 50,000 = 10,000 + 50,000 = ₹60,000

The government usually revises DA twice a year i.e. in January and July. This time the increase may be announced in early September and its effect will be considered effective from July 2025. The central government approved the 8th Central Pay Commission in January 2025, but the official notification is yet to be issued. Responding to a question asked in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, August 12, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said that letters were sent to the Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Home Affairs, Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) and all the states on January 17 and February 17, 2025 to give inputs on the Terms of Reference. He further said, ‘Inputs are still being received. So the official notification will be issued at the appropriate time.’ The chairman and members of the 8th Pay Commission will be appointed after the notification of the 8th Pay Commission is issued by the government. On the question of the timeline for the formation of the commission, the Union Minister said that the notification will be issued ‘at the appropriate time’ and the appointments will be made after that.

The Pay Commission has to take opinion from all the ministries, employee unions and pensioners’ groups. Only after this the report is prepared. Last time the 7th Pay Commission took about 18 months to prepare the report.

Recently, both these issues were discussed in detail in the meeting of the Central Board of Trustees (CBT), the apex decision making body of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization, on Saturday.

At present, the salary limit for joining under EPFO ​​is Rs 15,000 per month and Rs 21,000 under ESIC. Official sources told Business Standard that the limit is likely to be increased to Rs 30,000 per month for both the schemes.

The final decision may be taken in the February meeting

The issue of increasing the wage ceiling was discussed in the meeting of the EPFO’s Central Board of Trustees (CBT) held on Saturday. A source involved in the meeting said, “A final decision is expected in the CBT meeting in February, but most members and the Labour Ministry are in favour of doubling the current ceiling.”

Wage ceiling under EPF and ESI refers to the wage ceiling upto which EPF and ESI contribution is mandatory under the law. The amount of ’employee’s contribution’ for EPF and ESI is to be deducted by the employer from the wages of the employees and deposited in EPFO ​​and ESIC. Employers have to deposit an amount equal to the contribution.

What will be the benefit of this change

As per the current rules, employees earning more than Rs 15,000 have the option to opt out of EPF coverage. If this limit is increased to Rs 15,000, the number of contributors will increase.

Currently, there are 7 crore active members under EPFO. The current salary limit for EPFO ​​is fixed at Rs 15,000 per month, which was revised from Rs 6,500 in 2014. Under EPFO, both the employee and the employer contribute 12-12% to the EPF account for employees earning a monthly salary of Rs 15,000 or less.

The entire employee’s contribution goes into the PF account, but the employer’s contribution is divided into two parts. 8.33% is allocated to the Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS) and the remaining 3.67% goes to the Provident Fund account.

Currently, the EPF contribution of an employee with a basic salary of Rs 15,000 comes to Rs 1,800 per month, but suppose, if this salary limit is revised to Rs 30,000 then this contribution will increase to Rs 3,600 per month on a mandatory basis.

IBA and UFBU, AIBOU, AIBASM and BKSM have signed the 9th Joint Note and 12th Bilateral Agreement regarding pay revision for bank officers and employees. This will be effective from November 1, 2022.

What is announced for retired employees: In case of retired employees, it has been agreed that the monthly ex-gratia amount will be paid in addition to the pension/family pension paid by the public sector banks. This amount will be given to those pensioners and family pensioners who have become eligible to receive pension on or before October 31, 2022. Bank unions have been demanding holidays on all Saturdays and Sundays since 2015. Under the 10th bilateral agreement signed in 2015, the RBI and the government agreed with the IBA and declared the second and fourth Saturdays as holidays.

In terms of salaries, the IBA and bank employee unions had last year reached an agreement for a 17 per cent salary hike across all public sector banks (PSBs) in India, amounting to Rs 12,449 crore.

If the salary hike is approved by the Centre, If implemented, around 9 lakh employees including 3.8 lakh officers in all PSBs and select old generation private banks will benefit.

According to a TOI report, the MoU signed by the IBA and bank employee unions following talks on December 7, 2023, included a commitment to finalize the wage revision within 180 days.

7th CPC DA% = [{12 month average of AICPI-IW (base year 2001=100) for last 12 months – 261.42}/261.42×100]. The point to be noted here is that this calculation formula is applicable to those central government employees and pensioners who get salary based on the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission.

How much will the salary increase?

If there is an increase of 4 percent in dearness allowance and dearness relief, then how much will be the increase in the salary of employees and pensioners, let us try to understand it with an example…

If the basic salary of a central employee is Rs 53,500 per month. In such a situation, according to 46 percent, the current dearness allowance will be Rs 24,610. Now, if DA increases to 50 percent then this amount will increase to Rs 26,750. This means that the employee’s salary will increase by Rs 26,750 24,610 = Rs 2,140 per month.

Central government pensioners get a basic pension of Rs 41,100 per month. Those receiving pension at 46 percent DR get Rs 18,906. If their DR becomes 50 percent, they will get Rs 20,550 every month as relief from inflation. In such a situation, if DA is increased by 4 percent soon, then their pension will increase by Rs 1,644 per month.

• Contract drivers will be paid Rs 1000 till December 2023 for accident-free bus operation. In case of an accident in any month, he will be removed from this scheme for the next one year and will be given kilometer based remuneration. After being selected in the scheme, one will have to do 24 days duty and operate buses for 6000 kilometers in a month.

How much DA will increase

At present, dearness allowance is given to central employees at the rate of 34 percent. If there is an increase of 4 per cent, then it will increase to 38 per cent.

Explain that the government uses the data of the All India Consumer Price Index to increase the dearness allowance of the employees. In the past, it had seen an increase of 0.2 points, after which it reached 129.2 points. Looking at these figures, it is being estimated that the government can increase the DA by 4 percent. There will be a bumper increase in salary

According to the 7th Pay Commission, the minimum basic salary of employees is Rs 18,000 and at the level of cabinet secretary is Rs 56900. According to 38 percent, the total increase in annual DA on basic salary of Rs 18000 will be Rs 6840. If we look at the month wise, the total DA will increase by Rs 720 per month.

At the maximum basic salary bracket of Rs 56,900, the total increase in annual dearness allowance will be Rs 27,312. Those in this salary bracket will get Rs 2276 more per month as compared to 34 per cent.
