Train Ticket New Rules: Now booking a ticket from IRCTC is not a simple task. From 1 May 2025, a new rule has come into force – before booking a ticket, an OTP will be sent to the mobile number, it will have to be verified. Whether you are an old user or a new one, everyone will have to do this. Now there will be no excuse that ‘brother had booked it’. The ticket will now be booked in the name of the person who will do the verification.
Booking tickets 120 days in advance? Forget it now
Earlier people used to book tickets 4 months in advance for weddings or summer vacations. Now this will not work. Railways has reduced the booking window to 90 days. This means that now tickets will be available only 3 months in advance. Yes, there is no such limit on special trains. Earlier, people used to cancel tickets and then wait for 5-7 days for the refund SMS. Not anymore. Now on cancelling the ticket, the money will be refunded within 2 days. The only condition is that the ticket should be linked to your bank account. Whether the ticket is booked online or from the station.
Ticket validity – e-ticket will be valid on mobile
If you have an e-ticket, show it on your mobile easily, no need to print it. But remember – the ticket is valid only for the date and train mentioned on it. If you miss the train, the ticket is useless.
Ticket cancellation charges – Money will be deducted according to the class
Now listen to the most important thing – how much money will be deducted on cancelling the ticket?
- AC First Class/Executive – ₹240
- AC 2 Tier/First Class – ₹200
- AC 3 Tier/Chair Car/AC 3 Economy – ₹180
- Sleeper Class – ₹120
- Second Class – ₹60
If you cancel the ticket 48 to 12 hours before the ticket, then 25% of the total fare will be deducted, but not less than the minimum amount mentioned above.
Now even the attempt of those with waiting tickets to enter the train is futile. New rule will be implemented from May 1 – those with waiting tickets will not be able to board AC and sleeper coaches. If caught, a heavy fine and deboarding is certain.
