UIDAI released a new list of documents
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has released a new list for the year 2025–26 for making and updating Aadhaar. The new list states which documents will now be required for Aadhaar.
For whom are these new rules?
- Indian Citizen
- Indians living abroad (OCI cardholders)
- Children above 5 years of age
- Those residing in India on Long Term Visa (LTV)
Which documents are valid?
The Indian passport is valid for all four types of proof — proof of identity (ID), address, relationship and date of birth.
Apart from this, these documents can also be useful
- PAN card
- Voter ID
- Ration Card
- Driving License
- Bank passbook
- Pension Card
- Any certificate from the government
- Which of these documents to submit will depend on what you are getting updated.
Now only one Aadhaar for one person
UIDAI has clearly stated that if someone has two or more Aadhaar numbers by mistake, then only the first Aadhaar number issued will be valid and all other Aadhaar numbers will be cancelled.
Different rules for OCI and foreign nationals
Foreign nationals and OCI card holders will have to submit documents such as foreign passport, visa, citizenship certificate, or residence permit issued by FRRO.
Need to change your name, gender or date of birth?
If you want to change the name, date of birth or gender in your Aadhaar, then for this you will have to give self-declaration along with gazette notification, medical certificate or birth certificate.
