The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is set to launch a new Aadhaar App designed to significantly bolster the nation’s offline identity verification ecosystem. The move aims to improve resident convenience and strengthen secure digital identity services across the country.

UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar confirmed the launch is intended to promote a secure, paperless, and privacy-protecting method of identity sharing.

Key Features for Secure Verification

The new Aadhaar App simplifies verification by eliminating the reliance on physical photocopies, which often leads to potential fraudulent practices. The primary new features include:

  • Offline Verification: Allows individuals to verify and share their Aadhaar information even in areas with poor or no internet connectivity.

  • Selective Data Sharing: Users gain full control over their data. They can choose to share their complete Aadhaar information or selectively share only the required details (e.g., name and photo) while keeping sensitive information masked.

  • Offline Face Verification: The App facilitates proof of presence by allowing the confirming entity to conduct an offline face verification scan against the photo stored in the Aadhaar data.

  • Paperless Identity Sharing: The App allows users to generate QR codes or verifiable credentials for quick, contactless, and authenticated identity sharing, streamlining processes like hotel check-ins, event access, and admissions.
