UPI 123Pay: Digital payments are all the rage these days. From cities to small towns, people are sending money, paying bills, and making purchases using their mobile phones. But what about the millions of people who still use feature phones or aren’t as comfortable with the internet? For them, Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) has taken a major step. Now, even without a smartphone or internet, you can make payments using UPI with just a missed call and a voice command.
What is the UPI 123Pay system?
UPI 123Pay is an initiative of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) that allows UPI transactions to be made on feature phones. It’s a system that allows feature phone users to make digital payments. You only need two things: your mobile number linked to your bank account and a feature phone that can make calls. Simply call and send and receive money, or check your balance without internet.
How to use it?
- UPI 123Pay is very easy to use. Simply call 08045163666 from your phone.
Then select your language. - Then link your bank account (for first-time users).
- After this, you can choose options like “Send Money” or “Check Balance.”
- Enter your mobile number, UPI ID, or bank details to send money.
- Enter the amount.
- Complete the transaction by entering the UPI PIN.
- Enter the call after receiving the confirmation message.
- No internet connection or app is required. Everything is done through a voice call.
The key feature of UPI 123Pay
The biggest advantage of this system is that it works without internet, reducing the risk of cyber fraud.
It is available in 12 Indian languages and also offers balance checks, past transactions, and UPI PIN management.
IOB and NPST Partnership
Now, Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) is preparing to bring this system to its customers. The bank has partnered with Network People Services Technologies Limited (NPST), which will implement it in collaboration with MissCallPay.
Approximately 850 million people in India still do not use UPI, of which approximately 400 million are feature phone users. This initiative will pave the way for connecting them to the digital payment system.
NPST’s Vision
NPST Chairman Deepak Chand Thakur said, “Voice-based UPI is a step that will connect people from all walks of life in India to the digital economy.” He added that in the future, this system will be integrated with platforms like Alexa and Google Assistant to make payments even easier.
