The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has made a new rule that from June 30, 2025, whenever you send money to someone through UPI, the same name of that person will appear which is registered in his bank account. This will be beneficial that you will not send money to the wrong person and fraud will also be reduced. Now before making payment, you will be able to confirm by looking at the name of the right person. This change has been made to make UPI more secure and transparent. Let us tell you about the whole news in detail.

UPI New Rule: Now the real name will be visible

Now sending money through UPI has become safer than before. Earlier, when you used to send money to someone, the app would only show the nickname, short name or the name saved in the phone. This often led to misunderstandings and people would get deceived and send money to the wrong person. Now the new rule is that when you send money to someone through UPI, the name that is registered in his bank will be displayed – that is, the real and correct name. This will prevent anyone from cheating you by showing a fake name and the chances of accidentally sending money to the wrong account will also be reduced.

To ensure that your UPI account is not closed, you should keep a few simple things in mind:

Keep your mobile number updated – Your mobile number should be same in the bank and UPI app.

Look carefully at the messages coming in the UPI app – if any permission (consent) is asked, accept it on time.

Do not ignore bank or app notifications – pay attention to UPI related information.

By doing so, your UPI account will remain active and you will be able to send and receive money without any interruption.

-As per the new rules of NPCI, some important things have been implemented to maintain security and correct information related to UPI:

-Banks and UPI apps will have to update mobile number information every week – this will help in knowing if a mobile number has been given to someone else or not. This will prevent the old user’s information from accidentally going to the new user.

-User approval will be required before adding or changing UPI number – Now no option will be pre-ticked in the app, user will have to click “yes” himself.

– Messages sent for consent must be clear and direct – no one can be coerced or tricked into saying “yes.”
