The central government has taken an important decision for citizenship certification, under which now only Voter ID card (Voter ID) or passport will be considered valid as proof of Indian citizenship. Documents like Aadhar card, PAN card and ration card will no longer be considered valid proof of citizenship. This step has been taken specifically with the aim of identifying and stopping illegal immigrants.

What is the matter

A senior Delhi Police official said that during the recent verification drive, it was found that many illegal immigrants, especially Bangladeshi and Rohingya citizens, had obtained documents like Aadhaar, ration and PAN cards and were using them to falsely claim Indian citizenship. Therefore, now only voter ID or passport will be accepted as proof of citizenship.

What is the reason behind the rule

This decision has been taken by the central government to identify illegal citizens by security agencies, so that the security of the country can be ensured. Citizens are advised to keep their voter ID or passport updated and safe, as these will be given priority in various government services and processes in future. A senior Home Ministry official said, “So far, many such cases have come to light where foreign citizens have taken advantage of Indian citizenship through fake documents. Now this will be dealt with strictly. ”

What will be the effect

This decision will affect those who have been considering Aadhaar or PAN card as proof of citizenship till now. The government’s argument is that Aadhaar and PAN are means of identification, but they are not proof of citizenship. This step is being considered a decisive turning point in the direction of the country’s security and population management. In the coming days, this policy will help the administration in bringing transparency related to citizenship.
