Ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday announced a significant gift for women. He launched the Bihar Chief Minister’s Women’s Employment Scheme, which will transfer ₹10,000 each directly into the bank accounts of 7.5 million women in the state. A total of ₹7,500 crore will be spent on this scheme.
Focus on Women’s Empowerment
Launching the scheme, PM Modi stated that the NDA government’s goal is to empower women financially. He claimed that in the future, Bihar will become the state with the highest number of Lakhpati Didis in the country. Modi stated that after receiving an initial sum of ₹10,000, women will receive additional financial assistance of up to ₹2 lakh and entrepreneurship training to help them become self-reliant.
Targeting RJD rule
In his address, the Prime Minister described the RJD’s tenure as the most difficult period for women. He said, “During the RJD’s rule, there were no roads or law and order. Women had to face insecurity. Today, under the Nitish Kumar government, the rule of law prevails, and women feel safe. Therefore, it is important that the RJD and its allies do not return to power.”
Modi took a dig at Lalu Yadav, saying that when he was removed, he made his wife the Chief Minister. “His focus was on his family, our focus is on the entire Bihar.”

Interacting directly with women, PM Modi said, “The women of Bihar now have two brothers, Nitish and Modi, who are working day and night for their welfare.” He expressed confidence that this scheme will provide new opportunities for employment and self-reliance for women.
