Central Government employees may get some good news regarding their salary soon. According to media reports, after a 4 percent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) in September, the government may increase it once again. The government may cand DR by 3-5 percent in March 2023. Lakhs of central government employees are also waiting for 18 months DA. However, there is no update on this.

That’s all DA

The government had hiked DA and DR by 4 per cent in September, benefiting 48 lakh central government employees and 68 lakh pensioners in the country ahead of Diwali and the festive season. With effect from 1 July 2022, DA or DR became 38 per cent of the basic pay or pension, respectively, following a government hike. Earlier this year in 2022, DA was revised in March. The government revises DA and DR twice a year.

DA will increase to this much

Currently, government employees get 38 per cent DA. If the government revises DA by 3 to 5 percent, then DA can be between 41 to 43 percent. Suppose if someone’s salary is Rs 50,000 and his basic salary is Rs 20,000, then he would get 7,600 DA at the rate of 38 per cent. If DA increases by 5%, then the salary will be Rs 8,600. That means there will be an increase of Rs 1,000 in salary and an annual increase of Rs 12,000.

Formula was changed in the year 2006

Earlier, in the beginning of the year 2022, the government had increased the DA by 3 percent to 34 percent. In the year 2006, the central government revised the calculation formula of DA and DR for central government employees and pensioners. The central government revises allowances every year on January 1 and July 1.
