8th Pay Commission: The central government approved the formation of the 8th Pay Commission on 16 January 2025. This announcement was made during the Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
After that it was expected that the government would announce the names of the members of the Pay Commission in early April. Till now no such announcement has been made by the government, but a big update related to the 8th Pay Commission has come to the fore.
How will the 8th Pay Commission posts be filled?
According to the government circular, the appointments in the 8th Pay Commission will be made as per the rules set by the Department of Personnel (DoPT). DoPT will issue standard guidelines for this from time to time. The Department of Expenditure (DEA) under the Ministry of Finance has proposed to fill 35 posts in the 8th Pay Commission through deputation.
This means that people from different departments will be selected to prepare the recommendations of the Pay Commission. Once the commission completes its work, i.e. submits its recommendations to the government, the people appointed to these posts will return to their original roles or departments.
When will the 8th Pay Commission be implemented?
The government has not yet finalised the names of the members of the 8th Pay Commission. However, the recent circular of the government shows that work is going on fast and the names of the members of the Pay Commission can be announced very soon. After the formation of the Pay Commission, it will submit its recommendations to the government. After that the government will decide when the 8th Pay Commission should be implemented.
According to sources, the 8th Pay Commission may be implemented from January 1, 2026. However, some media say that there may be a delay in this and the 8th Pay Commission may be implemented from 2027. In this case, the government can give the increased salary as arrears from January 1, 2026.
