Mumbai Airport : Traveling from Mumbai Airport will become expensive. If you are going to travel from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai, then your pocket will now be burdened more than before.
The Airport Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA) has approved the increase in User Development Fee (UDF). The new rates will come into effect from May 16, 2025 and this system will remain effective till March 31, 2029.
Increase in UDF for domestic passengers
Till now, domestic passengers flying from Mumbai airport had to pay Rs 120 as UDF. But according to the new rates, this amount has been increased to Rs 175. At the same time, passengers who land in Mumbai will have to pay Rs 75 per passenger as UDF.
International travelers are more affected
- UDF for international flights is now divided according to travel class.
- For economy class passengers, this fee will be Rs 615 per passenger.
- Whereas business class passengers will have to pay Rs 695 per passenger.
- Earlier this fee was Rs 260 (economy) and Rs 304 (business) respectively. This means that international passengers will now have to pay almost double the burden.
Relief for airlines: Landing and parking charges cut
Although the burden on passengers has increased, airlines have got some relief. The regulator has reduced landing and parking charges for airlines, so that the operational cost of air travel can be reduced. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the competition at the same airports.
Why did AERA take this decision?
AERA said in the statement that this revision has been done to keep aviation operations balanced and efficient. An attempt has been made to ensure equitable and fair distribution of charges among all stakeholders.
