Mumbai Airport News: Flight operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai will be closed for six hours on May 8. Pre-monsoon maintenance work on both runways will run from 11 am to 5 pm.
Flight operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in India’s financial capital Mumbai will be closed for six hours on May 8. Airport operator MIAL said on Saturday that this will be done due to runway maintenance before the onset of monsoon. Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) also said that a mandatory NOTAM (notice to airmen) was issued six months ago to inform all stakeholders.
The private operator said pre-monsoon maintenance work on both runways – 09/27 and 14/32 – will be carried out from 11 am to 5 pm on May 8.
Runway maintenance is essential
Officials said that this annual pre-monsoon maintenance is very important to keep the basic infrastructure of the airport strong. MIAL said that experts will inspect the runway surface and take measures to prevent waterlogging to ensure safe landing and take-off during the monsoon season.
