But this rule has now been greatly relaxed. This certificate is very important for getting visa. This shows that the person applying for the visa is not of criminal record. That’s why the police first gives the clearance certificate of the person on the basis of which the visa is issued.

Saudi Embassy statement

The Embassy of Saudi Arabia on Thursday informed about abolishing the compulsion of Police Clearance Certificate. According to a statement issued by the Saudi Embassy, this new step has been taken to strengthen the relations between India and Saudi Arabia. “In view of the strong ties and strategic partnership between Saudi Arabia and India, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has decided to exempt Indian nationals from the submission of Police Clearance Certificate (PCC),” the statement said.

When is PCC needed

With the abolition of the rule of police clearance certificate, people will be able to get visa easily because for this applicants have to go round the police station. This certificate has to be taken from the police station in which the applicant resides. Such passport holders who apply for any residential status, employment, immigration or long stay visa need to collect police clearance certificate from the police station. However, if a person goes abroad on a tourist visa, then there is no need to give PCC.

PCC is necessary for these countries

Countries asking for police clearance certificate include countries where Indians go for employment. This list mainly includes 16 countries namely Afghanistan, Bahrain, Iraq, Indonesia, Kuwait, Jordan, Libya, Lebanon, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar, Sudan, Syria, Thailand, UAE and Yemen. Earlier, the name of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was also included in this list, but now this country is out of this rule. While taking visa for employment there, Indians will not need to give police clearance certificate.

The special thing is that the rule of PCC applies only when an Indian applies for a visa for employment in another country. If a person goes abroad on tourist visa, then he is kept out of the purview of police clearance certificate.
