A portal has also been prepared for this. Eligible migrants coming from neighboring countries will only have to apply online on the portal and the Home Ministry will verify it and issue citizenship. Let us tell you that the right to grant citizenship rests entirely with the Central Government.

What is CAA?

Under CAA, there is a provision to give Indian citizenship to six minorities (Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists and Parsis) who came from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh before 31 December 2014. For this, there is no need to provide any documents to the displaced people coming from these three countries.

It is noteworthy that the Parliament had approved the related bill in December 2019 and later after getting the assent from the President, there were massive protests in some parts of the country against it. There were sharp reactions in the country regarding CAA. Many political parties also opposed it. At that time the central government had decided to implement it, but it got delayed due to Corona.
