New Delhi: Worrying news is coming out for air passengers traveling from Delhi Airport . In fact, Delhi Airport Authority has decided to cancel 114 flights per day during the three months from June 15 to September 15 and will reschedule 86 flights. Airport operator Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) announced this on Friday.
Why is this decision being taken?
In fact, due to maintenance work, it has been decided to close the runway for three months from June 15 to September 15. The matter has been settled between airlines and other stakeholders. Everyone has agreed to it. DIAL said that it has rescheduled 86 flights to non-peak hours.
Meanwhile, 114 flights (57 arrivals and 57 departures) will be cancelled per day during the upgradation work of runway 28/10 to make it CAT-IIIB compliant for the upcoming fog season .
DIAL chief executive Videh Kumar Jaipuriar said on Friday that we are better prepared for this exercise now and consultations and stakeholder opinions were taken over the last few weeks. He admitted that these works were not done earlier, which led to problems in April.
Trouble in Apri
The first attempt to upgrade runway 28/10 in April had to be cancelled within four weeks as flight schedules became chaotic. The airport was unable to handle its daily flight load, a situation made worse by unseasonably strong easterly winds, which reduced the hourly arrival rate from 42 flights to 32 flights per hour.
