If you travel daily by Delhi Metro, then there is good news for you. Delhi Metro has started a new facility to end the hassle of tokens and cards. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has introduced QR code based paper tickets for travel on all its lines. This facility has been started with the aim of saving the time of the passengers.

DMRC has upgraded AFC (Automatic Fare Collection) gates and token/customer care counters to support QR based paper tickets for this facility. At the same time, DMRC is also working on the target of starting mobile based QR ticket by the end of the month. As soon as this facility comes, the need for passengers to buy tickets by standing in line at metro stations/counters will end.

How to use QR ticket at stations

Passengers will be able to enter only from the station from where QR based paper ticket (non-refundable) has been issued. Entry is not allowed from stations other than the issuing station.

> In case of failure in revenue service, QR based paper ticket will be adjusted as per rules by applying incident fare mode at AFC gates.

> Passengers will be able to enter the metro system within 60 minutes of the issue of QR based paper ticket.

>If a passenger fails to login to the system through QR based paper ticket within 60 minutes from the time of issue of QR based paper ticket, that ticket will become invalid. No refund will also be given to the passenger on that ticket.

>At present QR based paper ticket will be issued from one station to another station only.

>If a passenger wants to exit midway at a station other than the one specified in the ticket, before the destination station, the AFC gates will not open using QR based paper tickets. In such a case, a free exit ticket will be issued to the passenger by the Customer Care Operator and the old QR based paper ticket will be taken back from the passenger.

>If a passenger wants to exit at any station beyond the destination station, the AFC gates will not open if QR based paper tickets are used. An exit ticket will be issued to the passenger after recovering the fare equivalent to going to the next station and the old QR based paper ticket will be retained.

> No phone image/QR based copy of paper ticket will be accepted without a valid ticket. During this, action will be taken against the passenger as per DMRC rules.

Passengers’ time will be saved

DMRC is working on upgradation of Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs) to issue QR based paper tickets. A target has also been set to make all AFC gates of the network QR code compliant by the end of June this year. As soon as this system starts, the token requirement for travel will be abolished. This will save the time of passengers.
