DGCA New Guideline: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued new guidelines for all airlines. The aviation regulator has said that from now on, children below 12 years of age will have to be given a seat next to their parents during air travel. DGCA issued a circular in this regard on Tuesday and has clearly asked all the airlines to implement this rule compulsorily.

Big decision regarding children’s safety

This big decision has been taken by DGCA keeping in mind the safety of children during air travel. In its circular, the regulator said that henceforth all airlines will have to ensure that children up to 12 years of age are allotted seats accompanied by at least one of their parents/guardians, who are in the same family. Are traveling on PNR. Along with this, its complete record will also be kept.

You will not have to pay any extra charges

The Aviation Regulator has taken this step after a complaint in which it was said that a child was not allowed to sit with his parents during air travel. Now, according to the Air Transport Circular (ATC)-01 of 2024 issued by DGCA, a child below 12 years of age will be able to get a seat next to his/her parents and the special thing is that the passenger will not have to pay any extra charge for this. .

According to DGCA, airlines cannot put pressure on parents for a child’s seat. If the parent has chosen the option of free seat or auto allocation, then the adjacent seat will have to be arranged for the child.

Charges can be levied for these facilities

Along with the order to provide seats to children near their family members, DGCA has also given permission to airlines to carry zero baggage, preferred seat sharing, meals, drinks and musical instruments. However, DGCA has clarified in the circular that all these facilities are opt-in i.e. they are not mandatory. Auto seat facility has also been included in this, in which the airline automatically assigns the passenger seat and such passengers who have not taken the seat during web check-in, will be allotted seat automatically.
