Taking cognizance of the false, unverified and derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Election Commission has sent a show cause notice to AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi. The Election Commission on Tuesday issued a show cause notice to AAP for its alleged ‘derogatory’ remarks against PM Modi on the social media handle of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

AAP party has been asked to respond to the allegation of model code of conduct violation by 16 November. At the same time, EC also issued a show cause notice to Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. In fact, the BJP had complained that Priyanka had recently given ‘false’ and ‘unverified’ statements about the PM at an election rally in Madhya Pradesh.

The BJP had on November 10 approached the Election Commission seeking action against AAP for posting ‘highly unacceptable’ and ‘immoral’ video clips and comments on the social media platform targeting Prime Minister Modi. AAP had posted a video story of industrialist Gautam Adani and PM Modi on social media platform ‘X’ last Wednesday. The next day the party posted a picture of Adani and Modi and alleged that the Prime Minister does not work for the people but for industrialists.

After this, a BJP delegation including Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, party’s national media in-charge and Rajya Sabha member Anil Baluni and party leader Om Pathak approached the Election Commission on this issue. In a notice issued to AAP on BJP’s complaint, the Election Commission said the national convenor of Aam Aadmi Party has been asked to provide clarification on the statements/allegations/assertions allegedly made in social media posts against the star campaigner of another national party and that political party. Has been asked to give.

The Commission has asked Kejriwal why appropriate action should not be taken against him for violating the Model Code of Conduct. At the same time, acting on BJP’s complaint, the Election Commission has asked Priyanka to give clarification on her statement by 8 pm on Thursday.

In its complaint to the Commission, the BJP had accused Priyanka of making ‘baseless and false’ claims that the Narendra Modi-led government has privatized public sector undertakings (PSUs). Priyanka had reportedly alleged that Prime Minister Modi has given the public sector undertaking Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) to his industrialist friends.
