The central government has given great news to lakhs of railway employees. Union Minister Anurag Thakur has said that a bonus equal to 78 days’ salary will be given to non-gazetted railway employees of the Railway Department. This decision has been approved in the cabinet meeting.

Giving information about the cabinet meeting, Anurag Thakur also said that the Union Cabinet has approved increasing the dearness allowance of central government employees by 4 percent to 46 percent. Apart from this, the Cabinet has approved increasing the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of wheat by Rs 150 to Rs 2,275 per quintal for the crop season 2024-25.

Which employees benefit?

The benefit of this decision of the government will be given to non-gazetted track maintainers, loco pilots, train managers (guards), station masters, supervisors, technicians, technician helpers, pointsmen, ministerial employees and other ‘C’ group employees of the Railways. RPF/RPSF personnel are not included in its scope.

How much money will it cost?

According to Anurag Thakur, Rs 1968.87 crore will be spent on 11,07,346 railway employees under bonus. The performance of Railways in the year 2022-2023 was very good. Railways loaded a record amount of 1509 million tonnes of freight and carried approximately 6.5 billion passengers. Its payment will act as an incentive to motivate the Railway employees to work towards further improvement in performance.
