The company has officially announced that it will start deleting accounts that have not been used in at least two years in December 2023. If you are not a regular user of Gmail, your account may be disabled in the near future.

There is no need to worry for those who frequently use Gmail, Docs, Calendar and Photos, as the change will not affect active accounts. On the other hand, if your Google account has been inactive for a long time, this action is possible.

“If a Google Account hasn’t been used or signed in for at least 2 years, we may delete the account and its content,” it said.

Why is this decision being taken?

Such a decision may have to be taken due to security concerns. It was told that the accounts which are not active can easily be used by scammers. Google notes that accounts that are forgotten or often left unattended tend to have old or reused passwords, do not have two-factor authentication, and are subject to inadequate security checks.
