It was said in the notification that even if people falling in this category do not link PAN with Aadhaar, they will not face any problem and will not have to pay Rs 10,000 as fine.

There is no need to link these people , according to this notification, linking is not necessary for people living in Assam, Meghalaya and Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. On the other hand, according to the Income Tax Act, 1961, it is not mandatory for a non-resident to link PAN with Aadhaar. Apart from this, it is also not necessary for people who have crossed the age of eighty years or more at any time during the previous year. Also, even if a person is not a citizen of India, there is no need to link PAN with Aadhaar.

Know how to link PAN card with Aadhaar card

If your PAN and Aadhaar are not linked, you can link them through SMS or online. To link PAN with Aadhaar through SMS, send SMS to 567678 or 56161 from your registered phone number. Apart from this, you can also link PAN with Aadhaar online by visiting the Income Tax portal and paying the applicable late fee or Rs 1000. Along with this, you can also link your PAN card with Aadhaar card by visiting incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in, the official website of the Income Tax Department of India.
