The central government has started a new facility for making ration cards. The government on Friday launched the registration facility for issuance of ration cards in 11 states and union territories. The purpose of the government is to enable homeless people, destitute, migrants to get ration cards through this. Along with this, the government also wants to provide cheap food grains to such people.

The National Food Security Act (NFSA) gives coverage to about 81.35 crore people. Under this act, about 79.99 crore people get food grains at subsidized rates. That is, 1.58 crore beneficiaries can be added now. According to officials, through this new start, it is to help such people who are not able to get ration card made.

Ration card gets canceled due to many reasons

According to an estimate, out of 18 to 19 crore people in eight years, 4.7 crore people have been canceled due to different reasons. States and Union Territories are issued new cards to the beneficiary on a regular basis.

The scheme will be implemented in these states

The 11 states and union territories include Assam, Goa, Lakshadweep, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, Punjab and Uttarakhand. This has just been started as a pilot project. By the end of the month, this facility will be started in 36 states of the country.

Food grains are given at subsidized rates.

Through the National Food Security Act (NFSA), the government is giving 5 kg of wheat and rice per person per month at subsidized rates of Rs 2 to 3 per kg to about 80 crore people of the country.
