The government has imposed a complete ban on smoking cigarettes and consumption of tobacco products in government offices.

According to the government order, cigarettes, gutkha or any type of tobacco product will not be used in any government office or premises. This step has been taken with the aim of protecting the health of government employees and the environment of offices.

Strict action will be taken for violating the order

This order issued by the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR) of Karnataka clearly warns that disciplinary action will be taken if these rules are violated. For this, “No Smoking” and “No Tobacco” boards will also be installed in government offices so that employees can be informed about this rule.

Use of tobacco products is also prohibited in public places

The government order cites the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act 2003, according to which the consumption of tobacco in public places is completely prohibited. Along with this, under Rule-31 of the Karnataka State Civil Services Rules, 2021, the consumption of intoxicants in public places has also been banned.

Government’s commitment towards health

This order reflects the commitment of the Karnataka government towards the health of employees and citizens. The government aims to make the workplaces of government employees tobacco free so that all employees can get a healthy working environment.

Employees who break the rules will come under the scanner of officers

The government has also made it clear that strict disciplinary action will be taken against employees found smoking or consuming tobacco products in the office premises.
