How to check PAN Card is valid or invalid? Here’s a Quick Step-by-Step Guide

To further strengthen the monitoring, the Income Tax Department had asked all PAN users to link PAN with Aadhaar by June 30. PANs not linked after this will become inactive or invalid from July 1. In such a situation, it is important to know whether your PAN is invalid or valid.

Any individual or companies can easily find out the validity or inactivity of Permanent Account Number ie PAN online. PAN can be verified online by entering the details entered in the PAN card like name, father’s name and date of birth. If you have not linked your PAN with Aadhaar, then as per the guidelines your PAN may become inactive. In such a situation, you will not be able to file ITR and there will be difficulties in financial transactions including many other types of work. Follow the suggested steps to check whether your PAN is valid or not.

First verify PAN details

  1. Go to the homepage of the PAN users e-filing portal.
  2. Click on Verify your PAN on the e-filing homepage.
  3. On the Verify Your PAN page, enter full name, date of birth and registered mobile number and click on proceed.
  4. 6 digit OTP will come on the registered mobile number, enter it and click on validate.
  5. In this way your PAN details will be verified.

PAN Aadhaar Linking Status will tell PAN is valid or invalid

After verifying the details, you have to check PAN-Aadhaar linking status to find out whether your PAN is valid or invalid. However, if you have not linked PAN with Aadhaar before June 30, then your PAN will become invalid after July 1.

  1. PAN users first go to the official website of the Income Tax Department – incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/.
  2. Open the Quick Link segment and select Link Aadhaar Status.
  3. Enter your PAN and Aadhar card number.
  4. Click on the option ‘C Link Aadhaar Status’.
  5. You will see the PAN-Aadhaar link status on the screen.
  6. If your PAN and Aadhaar are linked, the screen will display as linked. If not linked, it will show the details to link both the cards.
