Railway Budget 2023: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has presented the budget for the year 2023-24. Various announcements have been made in this budget and efforts have been made to provide relief to many sectors.

Some big announcements have been made in the budget regarding the railways as well. In which the Finance Minister told that this time the railway budget has been reduced to 2.4 lakh crores. However, senior citizens traveling by rail did not get relief from this budget. It was expected that this time it could be announced in the budget that senior citizens would be given exemption in railway fare once again, however this did not happen.

Senior citizens used to get exemption

Before the Corona epidemic, senior citizens across the country were given exemption in railway fare. It was closed in the year 2019 due to the Corona epidemic. Earlier, there was a provision of 40 per cent relaxation for people above 60 years of age and 50 per cent for women above 58 years of age. Since then, it was constantly expected that the government would give relief to the elderly. Railways had earned crores after ending the exemption.

What did she say in the budget speech Finance Minister

Nirmala Sitharaman said in her budget speech that this is the first budget of Amrit Kaal. This budget is the blue print for the next 25 years. Despite the slowdown in the world, 7% GDP growth is estimated. He said that the focus will be on reforms and we will be able to do better with strong policies.

Government’s focus is on Jammu Kashmir, Ladakh, and Northeast. Rs 2200 crore has been announced for self-sufficient clean plant programme. The Finance Minister said that there is a target of 20 lakh crore loan for the agriculture sector in FY-24.
