So, Indian Railways is making a pretty big move. The thing is, they’ve started requiring physical printouts for certain unreserved tickets.
It sounds like a step backward, right? Moving from digital to paper? But there’s a massive reason for it. Let’s be real—fraudsters are getting way too smart with technology lately.
The whole issue blew up because of a specific incident on the Jaipur route. Picture this: a ticket checker is doing his routine rounds. He finds a group of students.
They show him their mobile tickets, and honestly, everything looks perfect. The QR codes scanned, the fare was right, the details were all there.
But here’s the kicker—it was all an AI-generated fake. They had actually bought one single ticket and used AI tools to “replicate” it so it looked like seven people were covered.
Because of scams like that, the authorities are tightening the screws.
They’ve flagged some serious security risks. Basically, they’re worried that if they don’t act now, AI-generated counterfeits will just flood the system and bleed revenue dry.

Now, don’t panic yet. This doesn’t mean every digital ticket is dead. If you’ve got a reserved e-ticket or an MT-CUT ticket, you’re still good to go with just your phone.
But for those unreserved tickets—the ones from UTS mobile apps, ATVMs, or the station counters—you’re going to need that physical paper in your hand. Those too. If you just show it on your screen, it won’t be considered valid anymore.
Railway divisions across the country, especially around Jhansi and Madhya Pradesh, are already on high alert.
TTEs are now being armed with specialized mobile apps just to scan and double-check those UTS numbers and color codes. It’s a bit messy for the average traveler, but the Railways is prioritizing revenue safety over convenience for now…
