The Sales Tax Bar Association, the oldest and largest body of tax professionals in the country, has written a letter to the Finance Minister. The organization wrote in a letter to the Finance Minister that due to the flood situation in the capital Delhi, many offices including the Income Tax office located at ITO are closed.

The Sales Tax Bar Association wrote in the letter that the last date for filing income tax return is now very close. In such a situation, it is difficult for a large number of taxpayers to submit all types of documents before the last date. In such a situation, the association has demanded the Finance Minister to extend the last date for filing income tax returns by one month till August 31, 2023.

Apart from the Finance Minister, the association has also submitted its representation to the CBDT chairman, demanding extension of the last date for filing income tax returns. Actually the problem of flood is not limited to Delhi only. Many states of North India have been affected by this natural outbreak. In which many other states are included from Himachal Pradesh.

Recently, Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra had said that those whose accounts are not to be audited should file income tax returns soon. He said that the Finance Ministry is not considering extending the date for filing income tax returns. But in view of the heavy monsoon, floods and the crisis on the mountains, there is a demand to extend the date of filing income tax returns.

The Income Tax Department said that till July 18, 2023, 3.06 crore taxpayers have filed ITR. This year this milestone has been achieved 7 days earlier than last year. Out of this, 2.81 ITrups have been e-verified. 1.50 crore ITRs have been processed. The Income Tax Department has requested people to file returns soon.
