The Kisan Credit Card loan scheme, launched by the Government of India in 1998, is one of the schemes aimed at providing short-term credit to farmers in the agriculture, fisheries and animal husbandry sector. Through this, farmers can get short-term loans that help them buy equipment and manage other expenses.

Who is eligible for Kisan Credit Card

  • According to RBI’s Master Circular on Kisan Credit Card Scheme, these people are eligible
  • Farmers – Individual / Joint borrowers who are owner farmers
  • Tenant farmers, oral lessees and sharecroppers
  • Self Help Groups (SHGs) or Joint Liability Groups (JLGs) of farmers including tenant farmers, sharecroppers etc.

Features of Kisan Credit Card

  • Farmers can take loan up to Rs. 3 lakh and also get marketing loan.
  • It also provides insurance cover for the plan holders up to Rs.50,000 in case of permanent disability or death and up to Rs.25000 in case of other risks.
  • It provides assistance in the purchase of fertilizers, seeds, etc. as well as obtaining cash discounts from traders/dealers.
  • The credit is available for a period of up to 3 years and can be repaid after the harvest season is over.
  • No collateral will be required for loans up to Rs 1.60 lakh.

How to Apply for Kisan Credit Card

  • Interested persons have to visit the bank
  • Fill the required application with all the details
  • Before approval, the bank will check the credit score of the applicant
  • Bank applicant’s land holding, cropping pattern, income etc. will also be checked.

Documents Required for Kisan Credit Card

  • Duly filled and signed application form.
  • Copy of Identity Proof like Aadhar Card, PAN Card, Voter ID, Driving License etc.
  • Copy of Address Proof Document like Aadhar Card, PAN Card, Voter ID, Driving License. The proof must contain the current address of the applicant to be valid.
