In fact, there has been a huge reduction in the prices of crude oil these days. The benefit of which government oil companies can give to the consumers by cutting the prices of LPG gas cylinders.

Crude oil prices fall but LPG cylinders are not cheap!

At present, Rs 1053 has to be paid for refilling a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder in the capital Delhi. 1079 in Kolkata, Rs 1052.50 in Mumbai and Rs 1068 in Chennai. Rs 1151 has to be paid in Patna, then Rs 1090 has to be paid in Lucknow. Government oil companies have not made any change in the prices of LPG cylinders since 6 July 2022. While there has been a huge fall in the prices of crude oil during this period. Crude oil prices have come down by 30 per cent during this period.

Domestic LPG cylinder to cost Rs 150 in 2022

In 2022, government oil companies have increased the prices of domestic cooking gas by around Rs 150 per cylinder. Last year in October 2021, when the price of crude oil used to be around $ 85 per barrel, when domestic cooking gas was available for Rs 899. At present, crude oil is trading around $83 per barrel, while the Indian basket price is around $77 per barrel. This is the reason why government oil companies have every reason to cut the prices of domestic cooking gas.

Rajasthan government’s decision increased pressure

Anyway, the opposition is launching an all-round attack on the Modi government regarding the cost of cooking gas. Rahul Gandhi, who is on Bharat Jodo Yatra, is constantly raising questions about the expensive cooking gas and reminding how in 2014 domestic cooking gas was available at Rs 414 per cylinder.

On the other hand, the Congress government of Rajasthan has promised to give cylinders for Rs 500 on April 1, 2023, while the current price in Jaipur is Rs 1056 per cylinder. That is, the state government will provide LPG cylinders to the people at half the price. With this decision of the Rajasthan government, the pressure on the central government has increased. This is the reason why a reduction in the prices of domestic cooking gas is expected in the new year.
