According to the news published in Mint, the government is considering increasing the subsidy on gas cylinders. The government is expected to announce increase in subsidy on gas cylinders to the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). Increasing the subsidy amount will provide relief to crores of gas consumers.

Focus also on increasing customer base

The government is also focusing on increasing the customer base to extend the benefits of the Ujjwala scheme to as many families as possible. The government is expected to take this step in view of inflation. The retail inflation rate for the month of September has fallen to 5.02 percent. The government has given the target to RBI to keep the inflation rate in the range of 4 to 6 percent. Earlier, the inflation rate had reached a record level of 15 months in July.

LPG cylinder price Rs 903

The government is once again trying to provide relief to the beneficiaries of the Ujjwala scheme. Under the expansion of Ujjwala scheme, gas connections of about 75 lakh women have been approved by the government. After this the number of beneficiaries will cross 10 crores.

After the subsidy amount was increased by Rs 100 in October, beneficiaries previously had to pay Rs 703 after subsidy for a 14.2 kg cylinder. But after the subsidy increased from Rs 200 to Rs 300, now this cylinder is priced at Rs 603.
