Delhi Metro Liquor Rules: Delhi Metro is once again in the news. Actually, a video is becoming increasingly viral on social media, in which a young man is seen drinking alcohol while sitting in a Delhi Metro train.
After the video went viral, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has said that eating food and drinking beverages are not allowed in metro trains. Let us tell you that even though drinking alcohol inside the metro is prohibited, a person is allowed to carry 2 sealed bottles of liquor.
Since Delhi Metro operates in NCR (Faridabad, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, Noida, and Bahadurgarh) apart from the country’s capital, the excise rules of the respective states will also apply in the matter of permission to carry 2 sealed liquor bottles. The passenger will have to ensure that the liquor bottle is not open. If a passenger is found with sealed liquor bottles more than the prescribed limit, action can be taken against him.
How many bottles are permitted, 2 or 1?
In July 2025, the DMRC had said that metro train passengers are expected to follow the existing rules of the respective state excise department regarding carrying liquor during cross-border transportation. If a passenger boards the train with 2 bottles of liquor from Delhi and is going towards UP, then he should understand that according to the excise rules of that state, he has only 2 bottles. Therefore, if only one bottle of liquor is allowed, then he should carry only one bottle.
DMRC allows the transportation of 2 liquor bottles, provided the bottles must comply with the capacities of 250 ml, 500 ml or 750 ml. This rule applies to full (750 ml), quarter (180 ml), half (375 ml) or local terms like pauwa and khambha.
