NHAI Hikes FASTag Annual Pass Fee: Pay More from April 1
Driving on National Highways will get slightly more expensive next month. Recently, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) announced a price hike for its popular FASTag Annual Pass. Starting April 1, 2026, the pass will cost ₹3,075. Previously, the fee was ₹3,000. Consequently, frequent highway travelers should renew their passes before the new rates kick in.
What is the FASTag Annual Pass?
Look, this pass is a prepaid toll plan for private vehicles. NHAI launched it in June 2025 to help daily commuters save money. Specifically, it covers cars, jeeps, and vans used for non-commercial purposes. Now, over 56 lakh users rely on this plan for cheaper travel across India.
Current vs. New Rates:
-
Old Price (Until March 31): ₹3,000
-
New Price (From April 1): ₹3,075
-
Usage Limit: Up to 200 toll crossings or one year.
Why Is the Price Increasing?
Indeed, the NHAI is not raising rates randomly. Specifically, the change follows the National Highways Fee Rules of 2008. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways stated that these revisions are part of a standard legal process. As a result, the new rate will apply to over 1,150 fee plazas on all National Highways and Expressways.
Eligibility and Rules
Actually, not every vehicle can get this pass. Specifically, it is only for “eligible non-commercial vehicles” with a valid FASTag. Furthermore, you must ensure your tag is linked to a verified account. Initially, the pass rolled out on August 15 last year, and it has seen massive growth since then.
Impact of Global Crisis on Infrastructure
While India focuses on roads, global events are causing stress. Actually, the ongoing war between the US, Israel, and Iran is affecting energy costs. Previously, experts warned that oil and energy prices could spike if the conflict hits key trade routes. Therefore, while the toll hike is small, overall travel costs might rise due to higher fuel prices in 2026.
