In a tweet, the Income Tax Department has advised people to link Aadhaar with PAN under any circumstances before June 30. The Income Tax Department said that under the Income Tax Act 1961, all PAN holders who do not fall in the exempted category are required to link with Aadhaar on or before June 30, 2023. Income Tax said to link Aadhaar with PAN today itself.

If a person does not link Aadhaar with PAN card by 30 June 2023, then the PAN card will become non-operative and he will have to bear the brunt. Under this action, refund will not be given to taxpayers having such PAN. No interest will be paid on the refund for the period the PAN remains inoperative. More TDS and TCS will be charged from such taxpayers.

Those people who have been exempted from PAN-Aadhaar linking, this action will not be taken and they will not have to face the consequences. Those people come in this category who live in certain states, are non-residents under the Act. Also, those people who are not Indian citizens and have been over 80 years of age till last year.

Why is it necessary to link Aadhaar with PAN?

If PAN card is not linked with Aadhaar, you will not be able to open mutual fund, demat account, bank account, because PAN card is necessary for all these. If the PAN card is locked due to not linking Aadhaar card and PAN card, then you will not be able to take advantage of any facility where PAN card is mandatory. That’s why you have not yet linked PAN and Aadhaar card, so complete this work soon.
