The Modi government’s ambitious One Nation One Ration Card scheme has been implemented in the entire country, after which online electronic point of sale (POS) devices have been made mandatory at all shops. The most important thing is that now the effect of this decision of the government is also visible.

Now there will be no problem in weighing the ration!

In fact, under the National Food Security Law, the central government has decided to link electronic point of sale (EPOS) devices with electronic scales at ration shops so that the beneficiaries can get the full amount of food grains. The law has amended the rules.

New rule applicable across the country

Now all the fair price shops in the country have been connected with online electronic point of sale ie POS device. That is, now there is no scope for error in the weighing of ration. To ensure that the beneficiaries of the Public Distribution System (PDS) do not get less ration under any circumstances, hybrid model Point of Sale machines have been given to the ration dealers. These machines will work offline as well as in online mode if there is no network. Now the beneficiaries will be able to buy goods under the National Food Security Act from any fair price shop in the country using their digital ration card.

What is rule?

The government says that this amendment is an attempt to further the process of improving food grain weighing under section 12 of the Act by improving the transparency of the operation of Target Public Distribution System (TPDS) under NFSA. Under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), the government is providing five kg of wheat and rice (foodgrains) per person per month to about 80 crore people of the country at a subsidized rate of Rs 2-3 per kg respectively.

What has changed?

The government said that in order to incentivize the states to run the EPOS device properly and to promote savings from the additional profit of Rs 17.00 per quintal, sub-rule (2) of the Food Security (Assistance to State Governments Rules) 2015 ) has been amended in rule 7.

The additional margin provided for the cost of purchase, operation and maintenance of point of sale devices under this, if any, is saved by any State/UT, it can be shared with the purchase, operation and maintenance of electronic weighing scales for both. is being used for integration.
