Veteran batsman Rohit Sharma stole the spotlight with his superb fielding in the third ODI between India and Afghanistan on Saturday (June 21). The 39-year-old Rohit took three consecutive excellent catches in the slip region, proving that while he may be getting older, he remains in excellent shape.

Notably , all three catches Rohit Sharma took came off the bowling of fast bowler Prasidh Krishna. Prasidh’s sharp bowling and Rohit’s excellent catching completely devastated Afghanistan’s top order at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Early in Afghanistan’s innings, Prasidh Krishna deceived Rahmanullah Gurbaz with his extra bounce. The ball took the outside edge of Gurbaz’s bat, and Rohit Sharma, standing at first slip, made no mistake and took a simple catch.

Rahmat Shah then came to the crease. He looked in good form after hitting a boundary, but Prasidh Krishna didn’t let him last long. The ball, going outside the off stump, took the edge of the bat, and Rohit Sharma took the catch for the second time, giving India a big breakthrough.

Afghanistan hadn’t even recovered from these setbacks when Prasidh Krishna trapped Ibrahim Zadran in his net. Zadran’s bat touched the ball, and Rohit Sharma, at slip, took his third consecutive catch, raising the excitement of the crowd.

In the powerplay, Prasidh Krishna dealt another blow to Afghanistan when he had young batsman Darwish Rasooli caught by Shreyas Iyer.

These three catches by Rohit Sharma and the explosive bowling of Prasidh Krishna not only destroyed the top order of Afghanistan but also gave India complete dominance in the match.
