Stellantis Layoffs: Stellantis, the parent company of the Chrysler automobile brand, is laying off 2,450 factory workers at its Warren Truck Assembly Plant as the automaker stops production of the Ram 1500 Classic truck.

The company said the layoffs will be effective Oct. 8 as the plant moves from a two-shift to a one-shift operating pattern for normal assembly. The company said Jeep Wagoneer will be assembled in one shift at the same plant.

Production of the Ram 1500 Classic will end at the end of this year. The company is shifting focus to the Ram 1500 Tradesman truck built at the Sterling Heights Assembly facility. “We introduce the new 2025 Ram 1500 Tradesman with incredible value and content. The upgraded electrical architecture provides useful new technologies for commercial fleets, including improved tracking and enhanced safety systems,” a company spokeswoman said.

What help is the company providing to the employees being laid off?

The plant has about 3,700 employees, represented by the United Auto Workers union. They will also receive two years of healthcare coverage. The UAW reached new labor agreements with Stellantis after a historic 6-week walkout last year.
