His main occupation was cobbler (shoemaker). Raidas was initiated in the saint tradition of Ramanand. Raidas is also considered one of the twelve disciples of Ramanand. Raidas’ ideology and principles are according to the tradition of saints. According to Saint Ravidas, the ultimate truth is truth, his knowledge was based on meditation and experience.

It is believed that Ravidas ji was born on Magh Purnima in the year 1377 in Varanasi district of Uttar Pradesh. District Magistrate orders closure of meat and liquor shops on 11th and 12th February 2025

District Magistrate Jalandhar Dr. Himanshu Agarwal has ordered to keep meat and liquor shops closed on 11th and 12th February 2025 in Jalandhar district in view of the Prakash Utsav of Sri Guru Ravidass Maharaj Ji on 12th February and the Shobha Yatra being taken out by various religious organizations in this regard on 11th February, keeping in mind the religious sentiments of the people and in order to maintain the law and order situation, in exercise of the powers vested in him under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Protection Code, 2023, during the said event, meat and liquor shops have been ordered to remain closed on 11th and 12th February 2025 along the route of the Shobha Yatra and near the place of the religious function.

The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has already clarified that all central government offices as well as industrial establishments will remain closed on this day, so that employees get full opportunity to exercise their democratic rights.

Since many schools and colleges are used as polling centres during elections, there is a tradition of keeping educational institutions closed on this day. To conduct the election process smoothly, a holiday is often declared a day before the polling so that administrative preparations can be finalised. In view of the Delhi Assembly elections, the Haryana government has declared a paid holiday on February 5 in all public offices, educational institutions, boards and corporations. The purpose of this holiday is to facilitate those government employees who are registered voters in Delhi and want to exercise their franchise in the elections. An official statement said that this holiday has been given under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 and Section 135-B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (amended in 1996). This provision will apply to those employees who are voters of the National Capital Territory of Delhi, so that they can vote without any hassle.

Devotees from far and wide come to pay obeisance on the martyrdom day. When Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji left Sri Anandpur Fort, his family went towards the Sirsa river and they got separated. The two elder Sahibzadey remained with Guru Ji and the two younger Sahibzadey remained with Mata Gujri Ji. The elder Sahibzadey was martyred during the battle of Chamkaur Sahib with the Mughals.

The younger sons were made to be walled up. In 1705, the Mughals captured the younger sons of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, 9-year-old Baba Zorawar Singh and 7-year-old Baba Fateh Singh Ji along with Mata Gujri near the village of Saheri and took them to Fatehgarh Sahib and there they were asked to convert to Islam, but the sons refused. On this, the Mughals kept Mata Gujri and both the sons in a cold tower for three days and two nights to torture them. The sons were made to be walled up. After the martyrdom of the younger sons, Mata Gujri Ji also sacrificed her life, and Mata Gujri Ji also became a martyr.

In the Legislature Party meeting held at Vidhan Bhavan on Wednesday, former Chief Minister of Gujarat and BJP Central Observer Vijay Rupani announced that Fadnavis (54) has been unanimously elected as the leader of the BJP Legislature Party. In the meeting, BJP’s Central Observer and Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that a ‘double engine government’ in the state and at the Center will give a boost to development.

Fadnavis thanked the BJP MLAs for reposing confidence in him and said that the landslide victory of the ruling Mahayuti alliance in the November 20 assembly elections was due to Prime Minister Modi’s mantra of ‘Ek Hain To Seif Hain’. In a meeting held at Vidhan Bhavan, senior leader of BJP’s Maharashtra unit Chandrakant Patil proposed the name of Fadnavis as the leader of the legislative party. Fadnavis’ name was approved for the top post in the BJP core committee meeting held here before the meeting of the legislative party.

Voting will be held on November 20 and the counting of votes will be done three days later on November 23.

The Election Commission has issued a directive that all establishments, businesses and workplaces falling within the limits of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) are required to give leave to their employees for voting on November 20. Violation of the directive will lead to action against employers under the guidelines of the Election Commission. This decision has been taken with the aim of encouraging voters in Mumbai city and suburban areas to exercise their franchise and increase the voting percentage.

However, employees whose absence may pose a threat to the public or their establishment will not be penalised. An order also said that employers will have to give paid leave to their employees on November 20 and this rule will also apply to all industrial areas, corporations, companies and other establishments. In special circumstances, if it is not possible to give a full day’s leave, then it is mandatory to give at least four hours of leave, but for this permission will have to be taken from the District Election Officer.
