After America, now Britain has also changed the rules of legal immigration i.e. work. Under this rule, now only degree holders will be able to get skilled visa. The second big change is that the duration of graduation visa given to students to work after graduation in Britain will be reduced from 2 years to 18 months. On Monday, the government announced these immigration reforms, after which many foreign students saw their dreams shattered.

Indian and Chinese students form the largest number of foreigners working in the United Kingdom. When the government there has tightened the immigration rules, it will have a direct impact on Indian citizens who are dreaming of settling in London. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer told about these strict rules while announcing his immigration white paper.

What did the British PM say?

The British PM said that Britain is now becoming an island of strangers. Apart from this, he said that the damage that this kind of immigration explosion is causing to our country cannot be counted. The white paper states that in recent years, there has been an increase in lower skilled migration of non-EU citizens within Britain. At the same time, the number of international students studying in low ranking universities has also increased. In such a situation, now only people with degrees will be eligible for skilled worker visa in Britain. It has also been said by the PM that now more training should be given to British employees in the country, so that the recruitment of foreign employees can also be reduced.

If you want to stay here, speak English.

If someone wants to settle in the UK, they will not be eligible for it unless they have lived in Britain for 5 years from 10 years. The salary limit for skilled worker visa will also be increased, while the fee for sponsors of skilled workers has also been increased by 32 percent. English language will be strictly enforced on all types of visa routes. PM Keir Starmer had also written in a post on the social media platform X – ‘If you want to stay in the UK, you should speak English’. He hopes that such steps will definitely reduce the number of immigrants in the country.

‘London Dream’ will not be easy

An important fact, which will affect the Indian students studying in Britain the most, is that they will not get much time to find a job. In fact, the duration of UK’s graduation visa, which allows students to work after their degree, will be reduced from 2 years to 18 months. Apart from this, the Health and Care Worker visa is also being abolished, for which a large number of South Asians apply.
