According to sources, this time during the ODI World Cup, it is not possible for the semi-finals to be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This information has been given by BCCI sources.

Semi-finals can be held in Mumbai-Kolkata

The fans were hopeful that a semi-final match could definitely happen in Ahmedabad, but their hopes seem to be dashing. Where these two semi-final matches will be played, it has also been disclosed.

According to sources, a semi-final match in the ODI World Cup 2023 can be played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. While the second semi-final match can be held at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Please tell that this is happening for the first time in the history of cricket, when the entire World Cup will be played in India.

Chennai was also in the race for the semi-final venue.

A source in the Cricket Board of India (BCCI) told PTI, “The two possible venues to host the World Cup semi-finals are Wankhede in Mumbai and Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Earlier Chennai was also in the race but it seems that Eden has gone ahead. One reason for this could also be the weather of Chennai in November where there is always a possibility of rain.

World Cup will start on October 5

Let us tell you that the World Cup will start on October 5 in Ahmedabad with the match between defending champion England and last time’s runner-up New Zealand. At the same time, the Indian team will play its first match against Australia on 8 October in Chennai. The match between India and Pakistan in the World Cup will be played on October 15 (Sunday) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

There will be 48 matches between 10 teams in the tournament.

This time 48 matches are to be organized in the World Cup among a total of 10 teams. India, England, Australia, New Zealand, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh and South Africa have already qualified for this mega event.

While the remaining two teams will be decided through the qualifying tournament starting this month in Zimbabwe. Qualifying tournaments include West Indies, Sri Lanka, Netherlands, Ireland, Nepal, Oman, Scotland, United Arab Emirates and hosts Zimbabwe.

World Cup will be played in round-robin format

Like the 2019 ODI World Cup, this time too the matches will be played in a round-robin format, where each team will play against the other once. That is, after the end of the group stage, all the teams would have played 9-9 matches. The top-four teams in the group-stage will face each other in the semi-finals.
