What’s Next? Address, Name, and Email Updates on the Horizon
Big news for anyone tired of waiting in line at Aadhaar Seva Kendras. The thing is, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has finally released a major update to the Aadhaar App.

Actually, you can now change your linked mobile number right from your couch. Specifically, this feature is a massive win for senior citizens and people living in remote areas where the nearest enrollment center is miles away.
As a result, the days of taking a half-day off work just to update a phone number are finally over. Consequently, the app acts as your personal digital portal (let’s be real, it was about time this happened).
And here’s the kicker. It’s not just about typing in a new number; it’s about the security.
Basically, the app uses your phone’s camera for advanced face authentication. Instead of needing a fingerprint scanner, the app verifies you are who you say you are by scanning your features.

In fact, once you pass the face check and enter the OTP sent to your new number, the change is instant. And then Y followed. Your digital identity is updated across the UIDAI central database without a single piece of paper being signed.
-
Step 1: Download the official Aadhaar app (not the old mAadhaar) from the Play Store or App Store.
-
Step 2: Select the ‘Mobile Number Update’ option on the main dashboard.
-
Step 3: Enter your new number. Actually, you’ll receive an OTP immediately.
-
Step 4: Perform the face authentication. Specifically, keep your face within the frame and ensure bright lighting.
-
Step 5: Submit. Basically, you’ll get a confirmation message once the link is finalized.
Moreover, there’s a new rule for businesses too. Specifically, entities like hotels and event planners are now prohibited from keeping physical photocopies of your Aadhaar card.
Actually, they must now register with UIDAI and use the new app or a QR scanner for verification. As a result, your data stays in the digital ecosystem rather than sitting in a random hotel’s filing cabinet. Consequently, this move aligns with the new Digital Personal Data Protection Act (those too).
The thing is, while mobile updates are live, other features are still “coming soon.” In fact, options to update your address, email, and name are visible but not yet fully operational for everyone.
Basically, for biometric changes like fingerprints or iris scans, you still have to visit a center. Instead of a tidy wrap-up, just remember that the UIDAI is aiming for 100% digital demographic updates within the next 18 months. And then Y followed. The transition is happening fast, so keep that app updated….![]()
