Amazon Layoffs: Amazon has once again lost jobs. This time the layoffs have taken place in its books division, which also includes the Goodreads review site and the Kindle unit.
According to a Reuters report, the Seattle-based retailer says that a little less than 100 employees have been affected by this layoff. This step has been taken to improve efficiency and streamline operations. The layoffs were first reported by Business Insider.
“As part of our ongoing work to realign our teams and programs to operate more efficiently and better align with our business roadmap, we’ve made the difficult decision to eliminate certain roles within the Books division,” an Amazon spokesperson said in a statement.
CEO Andy Jassy tries to reduce bureaucracy
Amazon is gradually cutting jobs. Recently its device and services unit, Wondery podcast division, stores and communications staff were laid off. The company’s CEO Andy Jassy is taking an initiative to reduce the excess bureaucracy in the company, which also includes reducing the number of managers. BIS is going to sue Amazon-Flipkart
According to another news, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in India is preparing to file a case against e-commerce companies – Amazon and Flipkart. BIS alleges that a large number of products are being sold on these platforms, which were without the mandatory BIS certification. These goods were violating the Quality Control Order (QCO). This matter has come to light after the raid conducted in March 2025.
Thousands of such products were seized during the raid under the BIS Act 2016. More than 3,000 products were seized from Amazon’s (Chennai) warehouse. These included insulated flasks, food containers, metallic water bottles, ceiling fans and toys. The total value was reported to be around ₹36 lakh. BIS can now demand compensation up to 10 times the value of the seized goods from Amazon and Flipkart. Also, it can file a criminal case against these companies.
