Center approves PAN Card 2.0, will your existing PAN card become useless? Know everything

The Union Cabinet took several important decisions in the meeting held on Monday (November 25). The PAN 2.0 project worth Rs 1,435 crore was approved in the meeting.

It aims to make Permanent Account Number (PAN) a ‘Common Business Identifier’ for all digital systems of government agencies. Under the PAN 2.0 project, the PAN card will be upgraded with a QR code for free.

Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the Income Tax Department’s PAN 2.0 (PAN 2.0) project. 1435 crore will be spent on PAN 2.0 project.

Advanced Version of PAN/TAN 1.0 Ecosystem

The project aims to provide better quality with ease of access and faster delivery of services. This project is an e-Governance project to re-engineer the business process of Taxpayers Registration Service through technology driven transformation of PAN/TAN service for better digital experience of taxpayers. According to the statement, it will be an advanced version of the existing PAN/TAN 1.0 ecosystem.

Around 78 Crore PAN Cards Issued

Currently around 78 Crore PAN Cards have been issued in the country. 98 percent of these PANs have been issued at the individual level.
