1. Big Drops in the US and Latin America

Now even the big democracies are seeing their scores fall fast. Actually, the United States fell seven spots since Donald Trump took power.

The New Attacks

First, RSF says Trump makes a habit of attacking those who write the news. Next, the group points to the arrest of Mario Guevara as a bad sign. Thus, the US now has a “problematic” rank of 64th. Furthermore, things are just as tough in Latin America. Specifically, Argentina fell 11 spots under Javier Milei. Additionally, El Salvador has dropped 105 spots since 2014. Therefore, the whole region is now a hard place for the press. Period.

2. The Most Deadly Spots for the Press

Now the Middle East and East Europe are still the most deadly zones. Actually, they have been the worst spots for 25 years.

War and Fear

First, Russia and Iran are both in the bottom ten spots. Next, Israel is down at rank 116. Thus, RSF says the army has killed over 220 news workers in Gaza. Additionally, at least 70 of them were killed while doing their jobs. Moreover, harsh leaders now use “emergency laws” to stop any critcs. Consequently, Russia sits at 172nd while Iran is at 177th out of 180 lands. Period.

3. Making News Work a Global Crime

Now the act of stopping the news is a “global trend”. Actually, 110 out of 180 lands now treat news workers like crooks.

The Lack of Help

First, RSF lists India, Turkiye, and Egypt as spots where the state is very harsh. Next, the head of RSF warns that these leaders act in “plain sight”. Thus, the old ways of keeping people safe no longer work. Additionally, RSF blames big web sites for letting this hate spread. Moreover, they say that doing nothing is the same as saying it is okay. Consequently, the world must move now to stop this global trend.
