Google Chrome update alert: India’s top cybersecurity organization, the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), has issued a high-risk alert regarding the desktop version of Google Chrome.
According to the advisory, several serious security vulnerabilities have been found in versions of the Chrome browser that have not been updated since version 137.0.7151.119/.120 on Windows and macOS and version 137.0.7151.119 on Linux.
By exploiting these security vulnerabilities, cybercriminals can run malicious code on a user’s computer, crash the browser, or steal confidential information, all by simply visiting a malicious or compromised website. Because these attacks can occur without any obvious signs, users may not be aware of the attack until important data is lost.
CERT-In urges users to do so immediately
To protect their devices, CERT-In has urged users to immediately install the latest stable version of Google’s Chrome browser. The official patch is now available. According to Google’s recent update, version 137.0.7151.119/.120 for Windows and macOS and 137.0.7151.119 for Linux has been released to the stable channel for desktop and will be gradually rolled out in the coming days or weeks.
Tips to stay safe
Update immediately: Update your Chrome browser to the latest stable version immediately to fix known vulnerabilities.
Turn on auto-updates: Make sure Chrome’s automatic update setting is active so that future security improvements can be applied immediately.
