Income Tax India has made it clear in its tweet that by July 31, file ITR and avoid late fine. This means that for filing ITR from August 1, a fine will have to be paid. You can avoid this by filing your return on time.

Filing ITR after the deadline may attract a penalty. For filing returns after the deadline, a late fee of Rs 1,000 will be levied on income of Rs 5 lakh or less. Late fee will be Rs 5,000 for income above Rs 5 lakh. This amount can go up to Rs 10,000.

To fill ITR, you have to log on to the Income Tax Department website https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal with the help of user id and password. For filing Income Tax Return ( ITR ), you will need PAN Card , Aadhar Card , Bank Account Number, Investment Details and Form 16 or Form 26AS.
