If you also use a PAN card, then there is an important news for you. The Income Tax Department is now imposing a fine of up to Rs 10,000 on those people whose PAN card has become inactive. Many people are unaware that their PAN card is no longer valid and they are using it as before.
Who will be fined Rs 10,000?
PAN card is not only used for filing ITR but also for every important financial work like banking, investment, buying and selling property, taking loan etc. If someone’s PAN card becomes inactive and he does not activate it again, then a fine of up to Rs 10,000 can be imposed by the Income Tax Department.
Is your PAN card active or not? Find out this way
- You can easily check from home whether your PAN card is active or not.
- For this you will have to visit the e-Filing website of the Income Tax Department.
- There, below in “Quick Links” or “Instant e-Services”, you will find the option “Verify Your PAN”.
- Here you have to enter your PAN number, full name, date of birth and the mobile number which is linked to PAN and Aadhaar.
- After this you will receive an OTP. After entering it, you will be able to see whether your PAN is active or not.
What to do if your PAN card is inactive?
If your PAN card is inactive, first check whether it is linked to your Aadhaar or not. If it is not linked, get it linked immediately. Sometimes it is linked but it is not valid, so do check the status once.
If you have two PAN cards or you have got a duplicate made by mistake, then you will have to surrender one of them. If you want, you can also make this request from the website of NDL or UTIITSL.
If you want to avoid any penalty and do not face any problem related to PAN, then definitely check your PAN status now. A small negligence can put you in big trouble.
