Instructions given to make uniform policy in four weeks

The bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice PS Narasimha and Justice JB Pardi Vala has given its verdict on this issue. This bench has directed the central government to make a uniform policy in four weeks on the instructions to give free sanitary pads to the girl students studying from class 6 to 12 in all the schools across the country.

During this, the bench said that this is a very serious and urgent matter. On this, the central government should involve the states and union territories as well.

The state is dedicated to improving access to menstrual hygiene for young and adolescent girls. But the responsibility of providing health services rests with the state governments, as public health is a state subject.

The court asked for the details of the expenditure

The court has also asked the details of the amount spent on girl students during periods from all the governments. That is, now the state governments will have to give information about their plans. Along with this, it has to be told whether they are spending the funds of the National Health Scheme of the Center on this scheme or from their own revenue.
