Aadhaar New Rule: A major relief has come for Aadhaar card holders. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced several new rules to make the Aadhaar update process faster, easier, and completely digital.

These new rules will come into effect from November 1, 2025. Under this, people will now be able to update information such as their name, address, date of birth, and mobile number online from the comfort of their homes. For this, they will no longer need to stand in long queues at Aadhaar service centers.

UIDAI says that the purpose of these changes is to make Aadhaar services more secure, user-friendly, and time-saving.

What will change?

1. Online Aadhaar Update Facility

Until now, people had to visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra for any corrections or changes. However, with the new system, the entire process can be completed online by visiting the UIDAI portal. Users’ submitted information will be digitally verified using government documents such as their PAN card, passport, driving license, or ration card. This will make the process both faster and more reliable.

2. New Aadhaar-PAN Linking Deadline

According to UIDAI’s new guidelines, Aadhaar-PAN linking has been made mandatory for all PAN holders. The deadline for this is December 31, 2025. If this deadline is missed, the PAN card will be deactivated from January 1, 2026. This will impact tax and other financial transactions. Additionally, those who obtain a new PAN card will now be required to complete Aadhaar-based verification.

3. Digital KYC is now completely paperless

UIDAI has also digitized the KYC process for banks and financial institutions. Customers will now be able to complete their KYC through three methods: Aadhaar OTP-based verification, video KYC, and in-person verification (optional). This new system will complete the account opening and identity verification process in just a few minutes.

4. Aadhaar update fees also changed

• UIDAI has also announced a new fee structure for Aadhaar services.
•  The fee for updating name, address, or mobile number will now be ₹75.
•  The fee for biometric updates (fingerprint, iris, or photo) has been increased to ₹125.
•  Biometric updates are completely free for children (5–7 years and 15–17 years).
•  Online document updates are also free until June 14, 2026.
•  After June 14, 2026, the update fee will remain ₹75.
•  The fee for Aadhaar reprints will remain ₹40.
•  The fee for home enrollment services will be ₹700 (for the first person) and ₹350 (for the second person at the same address).

UIDAI’s Message

UIDAI officials stated that this digital-first approach will give citizens the freedom to manage their Aadhaar-related information and make services more transparent. More Nominees Now Available in Bank Accounts

RBI has instructed banks to clearly inform every customer about the nomination facility. Even if someone does not wish to add a nominee, opening a bank account is permitted; there will be no restrictions. Note that if a nominee dies, their share will be considered cancelled.

Major GST Changes
From November 1st, the four-slab GST system will be abolished, with two slabs plus a special rate. The 12% and 28% slabs will be removed, and an additional 40% tax slab will be applicable on luxury/sin goods.

Extra Charges on SBI Card Payments
From November 1st, SBI card users will be charged a 1% charge on education payments if made through third-party apps like MobiKwik or CRED. A 1% charge will also apply for wallet balances exceeding ₹1,000.

Aadhaar Update
UIDAI has waived the ₹125 charge for mandatory biometric update (MBU) for children. This waiver came into effect from October and will be available for one year. For adults, the charge for updating name/address/mobile number/date of birth will be ₹75, and for biometric changes (fingerprint-iris) it will be ₹125. You can now update your address, date of birth, name, and mobile number online, without the need to upload any documents.

Important Reminder for Pensioners
Central and state government pensioners must submit life certificates by the end of November, or their pensions may be withheld. Employees wishing to shift from the NPS to the UPS scheme must also do so by November.

Aadhaar Update Rate List: Updating information such as name, address, or photo on your Aadhaar card has now become more expensive. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has revised the charges associated with Aadhaar updates.

Now, any changes to your Aadhaar card will incur an additional fee of 15 to 25 rupees. The new rules came into effect on October 1, 2025, and will remain in effect until September 30, 2028. Following this, the UIDAI has also set new rates for the next phase, from October 1, 2028, to September 30, 2031.

Which services have become more expensive?

Services that previously cost ₹50 have now been increased to ₹75. These services include updating information such as name, address, mobile number, and date of birth. Updating fingerprints, iris, or photos, which previously cost ₹100, will now cost ₹125.

Similarly, services that cost ₹75 have now become ₹90. Services that cost ₹125 will increase to ₹150 in the second phase, from October 1, 2028, to September 30, 2031. However, there will be no fee for making a new Aadhaar card, and it will remain free as before.

Relief for Children and Adolescents

UIDAI has also provided relief to children and adolescents. A one-time biometric update for children/adolescents aged five to seven and 15 to 17 will be free. Additionally, the biometric update fee for children aged seven to 15 has been waived until September 30, 2026.

This step has been taken to promote timely updates. However, if a person wishes to update their biometric information at a different age, they will have to pay a fee.

₹700 charge for home service

UIDAI has also fixed the fee for home Aadhaar services. If a person wishes to update their Aadhaar at home, they will have to pay ₹700 (including GST).

If additional members of the same household wish to avail the service, a charge of ₹350 will be levied for each additional person. These fees will be separate from the normal fees for demographic and biometric updates.

Online update is cheaper, color print is more expensive.

If you update your address or other documents in your Aadhaar online (MyAadhaar portal), this service is free until June 14, 2026. However, if you get the same update done at an Aadhaar Seva Kendra, you will have to pay Rs. 75, up from Rs. 50 previously.

If you want to obtain a color copy of your Aadhaar or eKYC, you will now have to pay for this as well. The fee has been fixed at Rs. 40 (2025-2028) and Rs. 50 (2028-2031).

Biometric Update Charges

If someone needs to update their fingerprint, iris, or photo, the fee will be charged according to these rules.

– Free for ages 5 to 7.

– Free once for ages 15 to 17.

– A fee of Rs. 125 will be charged for all other cases.

– Biometric update fees for children aged 7 to 15 years have been waived till September 30, 2026.

Biometric update is mandatory after the age of five

According to UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar, Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) has not been done yet for children who have completed the age of five years. If this update is not done, the reliability of Aadhaar may be affected. In case of not updating after the age of seven, the child’s Aadhaar can also be deactivated.

Aims for comprehensive coverage through schools

Kumar said that this work will be done with the consent of the parents. At present, technical testing is going on and the project is likely to start in the next 45 to 60 days. UIDAI will deploy biometric machines in every district. These will be used in a rotation in schools, so that coverage can be ensured on a wide scale.

Aadhaar update for children between 5 and 7 years is free

This biometric update will be done free of cost between the ages of 5 and 7 years. However, a fee of ₹100 will be applicable after the age of seven.
